This past week we had the opportunity to use google hangouts. I thought that this little WEB 2.0 tool was extremely useful except for the little bit of lag time. It accomplished and performed exactly as expected. If you’ve never used Google Hangouts, and you are older like me, It works just like the chat rooms of the early 1990’s. I guess I just dated myself. Let me date myself some more. The first PC I bought which allowed me to access those chat rooms cost $3000 and had less computing power and speed than my smart phone. It also had a screaming 36k dial up connection to the internet. To put the speed in perspective, it took me about 4 hours to download a high quality mp3 or wav file of my favorite 3 minute song.
I also used Doodle for the first and second time. Doodle is a cool survey tool for setting up schedules and quick one or two question surveys. I used it to determine the best time for our group to access Google Hangouts and to narrow our topic for the interpretive sign and launch page. I highly recommend it.
I think out project is on track although I plan to use Google Hangouts this week to try and eliminate some of the confusion that I am seeing from other group members. I hope that we have a prototype launch page and sign by the end of the week.
